Structure
We can adapt the type of work we do and how long we do it for to fit your needs. What I find works best for most people is that we use our first session to find out more about you and your family: who are you, what’s working, what are you struggling with, and what do you want to achieve in the work we do together? This is also important for making sure that what I do is a good fit for your needs.
Once we’ve clarified what you want to work on, we’ll look at that in more detail. I might ask you to keep a journal to help us understand it better. Then we can start on the problem-solving and think about ways to experiment with what you’re doing. We’ll keep reviewing what helps and what doesn’t, and build on that.
Sometimes we see positive changes very quickly, and sometimes it can take more time. The great thing about working with parents is that you can use what we’ve learned together in our sessions and adapt it over time — if you are confident that you have a plan, you can take it from there and come back if and when you need more support. You don’t have to commit to a set number of sessions but I would recommend starting with four and seeing where we go from there.
Working directly with children
I work with parents but I can connect you with colleagues who work with children. Let me know and I can pass on their contact details.
